FINAL PROGRESS  REPORT  NUMBER  12

THE SPIRIT OF THE NORTH

Nome, Alaska,100 miles south of the Bering Strait, is the end of our ‘one warm line’.We’ve changed our plan.

We’ve found Nome to be a great town, and a good place to overwinter the boat.

From here next year, Jarlath has many cruise options, Siberia, The Aluetians, Alaska South, all of which would have been left behind had we continued now bashing on southward; with the winter quickly coming on.

We’ve probably said all we usefully can for now about Our Northwest Passage. We planned, we manned, we had luck and we took it.

But if we were asked what was different about it for us?   It was the Spirit of the North. What the North gave to us, and what we gave back.

We flew close to the sun, but unlike Icarus, our wings did not melt
